Huertomanias is a community green house to motivate people who have difficulties to participate in the labor market due to mental health problems. It is an urban garden that promotes work and income generation. It helps generates respect and introduces a production model that defies the typical labor models in our society; it offers organic and artisanal products of high quality. The project aims to create a greenhouse of low budget that could help produce crops which must be protected from excessive moisture or insects.
The greenhouse is located in Nayón, a densely populated mountain village with 149 inhabitants per square kilo-meter. The closest major community is Quito, 13.5 km southwest of Nayón. Nayón is known as the Garden of Quito.
The surrounding around Nayón is a mosaic of farmland and natural vegetation. The greenhouse helps the local population to work with various species for both the consumption and decoration purpose, adding value to the local economy which is primarily based on wholesale of gardening/gardening vegetation.
The Triangle of the Vegetables is a lightweight, compact, transparent structure. From a distance it looks like a ghost in the middle of the mountain. Built with materials of the place, bamboo, wood and plastic, the greenhouse takes a basic geometric form (triangle) that allows multiple layers of light and shade during the day. The greenhouse categorizes sectors and levels of different types of crops; seedlings are taken care at the orchards of the organization.
