The leprosy village Sunderpur is located close to the border to Nepal. There is a hospital to treat the disease and for the affected people flats were offered to live. Also other infrastructures such as a dariy farm and a weaving department offer the chance for a dignified work to the handicapped people. An other important aspect is the school located in the village to offer education to the young ones from class 1 until class 10, but the teachers are not well-trained.
So the village wants to employ better teachers from other parts of India and maybe from Europe to improve the educational system, but therefore new houses have to be built to live up with better standards.
Also these flats shall show the inhabitants how to work with original local materials because the bricks used most of the time are not the best solution to work with in this wet climate.
The building offers many possibilities of usage. There are 12 rooms alltogether which you can split into three, two or one room flats. The single rooms can be used for guests visiting the village. The living area is expandable to a covered outside area where a small private kitchen is located.
In the south there is a community hall where you can meet to prepare the lessons or have private lessons after school. In the attached kitchen it’s also possible to celebrate and cook together. The rooftop is open to all villagers to rest, to meet, to read or even sleep during the hot season.
