Open Source House has the aim to start a viable social business to provide affordable housing through sustainable design for low income countries. The project started with a design competition in which more than 3100 young architects from 45 different countries send in their 250 designs. All designs are shared online. The goal of the competition was to design an affordable, flexible and sustainable house.
OS-House aims to provide houses for those who cannot afford them in the current system. This target group is the lower middle class, like policemen, teachers and nurses. They have a steady income but in the current situation live in rented rooms or slums.
