The original idea of this bamboo dome structure came from a student, who didn't know how to build a dome. During a class exercise, the student was assigned to build a replica of the Dome of Soltaniyeh (see picture below). Eventually this student came up with an inspiring solution for a dome shelter by using 3mm strips of foam.
Locally available resources were used to complete this dome structure: bamboo and rice straw that come from nearby cultivations.
The bamboo was cut two days prior to use. This ensured it was still soft and flexible during construction and would subsequently become rigid once built. Gas pipes were used as fixing holders; the bamboos could just lodged into the sections of gas pipes. In doing so, it's easy to move the structure by simply taking out the bamboos from the pips and installing them again in another location.
