Introduction
The community organization's name is the Samahang Magkakapitbahay ng Munting Nayon, located in Muntinlupa City, Philippines. The organization has a 164 total population with 33 bonafide member families and currently occupying the lot containing 1,000 square meters. The people started living in the area in 1975, and most of the members lived in different places outside the city. There are currently 30 houses in the property with a mixed number of floors ranging from 1-3 floor levels, and most of the structures are light to semi-concrete materials. The organization acquired the property through direct purchase with Interim financing-a Local Government program through the Urban Poors Affairs Office. The said financing will be payable for five years, and the community is now in its fourth year and will complete the repayment in 2022. The community members are currently saving for and preparing for housing development and construction. The project type is onsite redevelopment. The City Government of Muntinlupa already approved the site development plan, and each beneficiary will have a 28 square meter plot. The community wants to conduct a participatory housing design workshop and processes to give more inputs and consider their design options and aspirations.

Impact
The design development phase will be the step for the community to reach their dream community. Technical professionals will facilitate capacity-building activities for the community members to fully understand the housing development process and the laws that need to consider. The complete participation of the members in the series of workshops and learning is enough to produce meaningful inputs to the overall development.
In terms of organizing, the community will strengthen their savings initiative and managing their funds. Aside from the 100% community members who have savings for their land in which they are currently paying through interim financing, 100% of the families will continue saving for their housing development. This process further expands the community's capacity to conduct participatory processes and empower other communities that need support in terms of decision-making and project planning.
This initiative will document as a best practice where 186 urban poor communities and settlements in Muntinlupa City can benefit from this approach, especially communities living in private lands aiming to acquire the lot and develop housing projects onsite.
Core team
In 2016, the Samahang Magkakapitbahay ng Munting Nayon was one of the communities mapped during the CityWide mapping in Muntinlupa City to identify and map informal settlements and their upgrading needs. TAMPEI facilitated the mapping approach. In early 2020, TAMPEI organized a learning workshop through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programs and invited some technical professionals such as architects to contribute to developing one of the target communities - in this case, the Munting Nayon. The participants came up with conceptual plans and initial inputs. The community representatives decided to conduct a complete housing design workshop in their community, eyeing TAMPEI as the technical support. Early in 2021, TAMPEI partnered with an International University to support poor urban communities in Metro Manila. The Munting Nayon community was one of the target People Organization that will undergo series of workshop supporting their design development phase. Another CPD workshop under the partnership was held, and one of the outputs is the list of identified committed professionals to assist in the community workshops for five target communities.
Apart from the identified technical professionals (architects and engineers), TAMPEI also leads the process with the president of the Munting Nayon Community, supported by the Homeless Peoples Federation Philippines Muntinlupa team.
