Goals and motivations
I am a landscape designer from China with over ten years of experience. Since 2023, China’s real estate and urban infrastructure sectors have faced significant challenges. This situation has prompted designers like myself to rethink the development path of Chinese cities. In this moment of uncertainty, I chose to pursue a Master’s degree in Urban Design at the University of Sheffield. The concepts of urban and community development, as well as participatory design methods I learned in Sheffield, have revealed the broader value of the design profession and helped me reimagine the future of Chinese cities. Now that I’ve completed my studies and returned to China, I’m eager to take action and begin with small steps, working on community co-design practices. In fact, I’ve already started this process. I’ve turned my master’s thesis project, "Equitable Aging Transformation - Age-Friendly Community Furniture", into a participatory model and invited residents to collaborate on the design. I plan to turn this project into a series of programs and share them on social media in China. A–D represents a more international stage, and I’m eager to join and contribute!
