Goals and motivations
I am an interior and service designer who found her vocation in sustainable design and architecture for the Global South, specializing in 2020 with a II level Master in "Design for Development. Architecture, Urban Planning and Heritage in the Global South" in Politecnico di Milano. Since 2019 my work has concentrated on socially impactful and environmentally sustainable projects designed through the adoption of participatory processes, local materials and bioclimatic principles, with a focus on the Sub-Saharan African context. I have so far worked on projects located in Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Niger, and I am looking forward to experience projects in more and more areas on the continent. In 2020 I co-founded Karibu Kimintet - the school in the savannah: a rural development and sustainable architecture project with the aim of improving the conditions of the Kimintet school located in Kirindon, Kenya. The main motivation that drives me is a will to make use of the design skills acquired during my academic career to serve those communities and contexts where the urgent needs and difficult conditions don't normally leave much room for thoughtful and caring design for the people and the planet. I believe a design process that involves the end users in the decision-making process and that takes care of the environment should be accessible everywhere and I am driven by the ideal to be part of a network of concerned and empowered designers that can make a difference through collaboration.
